Brian Messana

 

Brian Messana established Messana O’Rorke with Toby O’Rorke in 1996. The principles share equally in the creative output of the office, in addition, Mr.

Messana is responsible for general project and office management, including client relations and development, project schedule development and monitoring.

 

Under Mr. Messana’s direction MO’R has maintained a broad spectrum of

architectural projects from retail and commercial projects, through to mixed use and residential developments.

 

Brian Messana began his professional career at Richard Meier and Partners in New York City where he worked on the Museum of Contemporary Art in

Barcelona and Canal + Headquarters and TV Production Studios in Paris. Mr. Messana also worked with Asymptote on an urban design competition for Berlin, with Peter Marino Architects on the Christian Dior flagship store in Paris and with Naomi Leff Associates on the Holt Renfrew Department Store in Montreal.

 

Mr. Messana is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is a licensed architect in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California. He earned a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University and was awarded the Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize. Mr. Messana studied Liberal Arts at the University of California at Los Angeles before he earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. His undergraduate studies included a year at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Alexandria, Virginia,a summer at the Ecoles d’Art Americaines in Fontainebleau, France, and a year at the California State University in Florence, Italy.

 

Mr. Messana has presented numerous lectures on architecture and the work of Messana O’Rorke and has served as guest critic at a number of architectural schools in the US. He has thaught at Columbia University, Pratt Institute, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Southwestern Louisiana.

 

 

Toby O’Rorke

 

Toby O’Rorke established Messana O’Rorke with Brian Messana in 1996. The principles share equally in the creative output of the office, in addition, Mr. O’Rorke is responsible for the project management and production, including construction documentation, consultant contracting and administration services.

 

Toby O’Rorke’s professional career started in London at the Greater London Council Department of Architecture where among other projects he worked on the award winning Coin Street Development in Waterloo and the Newham

Magistrates Court. In 1987 he worked in Australia for Ancher Mortlock and Woolley on the Victoria State Linrary and Museum. Mr. O’Rorke moved to New York City in 1989 where he subsequently worked with a number of different firms including Margaret Helfand Architects, where he produced construction documents for an Academic building at Swathmore College, with Henry

Myerburg Architect he worked on various projects including fashion showrooms and restaurants and a library for Bryn Mawr College, with Thierry Despont Ltd where he produced construction documents for Bill Gates Residence in Seattle and with Polo Ralph Lauren where he was involved in commercial retail

development, including fixture design for Collection, Polo Sport and Home.

 

Mr. O’Rorke is a registered British Architect and is a member of the Royal

Institute of British Architects. He received his architectural education at Oxford Polytechnic in the United Kingdom where he earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1985 and his Post Graduate Diploma in Architecture in 1989. During his Diploma he spent six months at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in

Alexandria, Virginia.
